Strategic Priority
Rural and First Nations Health
Lead
Dr. Jennifer Grace
Health Authority
Interior Health Authority (IHA)

Aim: The objective was to provide internal medicine consulting services for the Williams Lake community on a part-time basis, ideally as a bridge to recruiting local internists.  The project also aimed to improve collaborative care among internists, referring doctors and other providers, and to provide continuing medical education (CME) rounds to the medical staff.

Summary: This project worked to set up: A traveling consult service for the community of Williams Lake, BC. General Internists from across British Columbia travel to Williams Lake to provide an intermittent clinical service, which includes included outpatient clinics, in-hospital consults both in the Emergency Department and the medical and surgical wards, performance of stress tests, reading of EKGs, and for the majority of the Internists, provision of ICU/CCU support.
