Specialist Advice Fees (G10001, G10002 and G10005)

Purpose

SSC developed these fees to increase specialists' capacity, improve patient access to specialists’ expertise and improve the coordination of patient care.The fees are intended to prevent unnecessary referrals or visits to the Emergency Department through improved communication between physicians and with allied care providers to benefit patient care.

Sizing it Up

Payable to the Specialist for communication regarding assessment and management of a patient but without the consulting physician seeing the patient.

Things to Know

The consulting specialist is responsible for ensuring that an appropriate communication modality is used to meet the medical needs of the patient.
