Surgical eBooking pilot project

Aim: Pilot to develop electronic surgical booking solution for surgeons’ offices in Nanaimo and Fraser Region, for potential provincial expansion.

Summary: Focusing on surgeons' offices in Nanaimo and Fraser Health, this project enhanced Electronic Medical Record (EMR) applications to connect them with an EMR-integration technology that allowed for advanced reporting and a decision-support tool. This work was foundational to expansion of a system to provincial management. Although the provincial expansion did not occur, this service improved communication and automated processes shared by patients, physicians, surgeons, medical office assistants, and operating room booking clerks resulting in cost savings, enhanced patient safety, and shorter waitlists.
