Sponsorship available to all BC physicians: Online Course on Finding and Creating Joy in Work by IHI

Posted on Mar 1, 2022

All active physicians in BC are invited and sponsored to participate in the next cohort of Finding and Creating Joy in Work course offered online by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement starting April 6, 2022. The format of this online course includes six weeks of bi-weekly video content, three all-learner calls, and an opportunity for added coaching.

Participants will learn about proven quality improvement methods that can help create a positive work environment fostering camaraderie, meaning, choice, and equity, and ensuring the commitment to delivering high-quality care. One past participant of the course, Dr Marianne Morgan said, "The Joy in Work course caught my eye because of the crazy title. It is an excellent course that challenged my thoughts on how’s teams function and how we support each other. Using principles from the Joy in Work course our leadership team turned around our concerns about compassion-fatigue and burnout in our frontline workers to co-creating a team wellness program."

Physicians are eligible to receive sponsorship for tuition costs through the Physician Leadership Program of the Specialist Services and the Shared Care committees.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Submit an easy one-page completed scholarship application to jcctraining@doctorsofbc.ca. Please note, VP of medicine's signature is NOT required for this course.

2. Register for the course through the IHI

3. Upon completing the course, for reimbursement of tuition costs, submit a claim form, receipt of registration, and certificate of completion to jcctraining@doctorsofbc.ca.

Related: Island Health's PQI team members are conducting a one-hour online session, "Intro to Joy in Work" to explore what the concept entails and share ideas on how they can be translated into practice. This session will be held online on March 23 from 5-6 pm. All physicians are welcome to join. Click here to register.
