SSC supports physicians to initiate and spread ideas for change and impact

Posted on Mar 23, 2023

Having access to SSC supports including funding, training, tools, and connections is making it possible for physicians from across BC to move ideas into action that improve their patients' care, experiences, and lives, and have a lasting impact on the health care system.

Two physicians who accessed SSC supports share their inspiration and motivation for change, SSC supports that helped to make it possible, and their thoughts about the impact the projects are having on patients and providers.

Dr Jennifer Kask, Family Physician, Campbell River, with Dr. Dr Kirsten Duckitt, Obstetrical Specialist

Project: Prevention of Preterm Birth Pathway (Island Health)

SSC Funding: Facility Engagement, Physician Quality Improvement, Spreading Quality Improvement

This project aims to increase awareness among maternity care providers in rural communities around reducing the risk for preterm births. Initially started in the North Island (Campbell River), the work is spreading across Vancouver Island communities.

Dr Kim MacDonald, OBGYN, Victoria

Project: West Coast Gynecology and Perinatal Care and Full Circle Family Practice

SSC Funding: Facility Engagement, Enhancing Access, Specialist Team Care Collaborative

This project aims to create a multi-disciplinary, team-based care clinic that provides full women’s health services through a single-entry model, to increase access to the appropriate provider working to their full scope of practice - and where patients feel connected and well-cared for by a team of providers through life-changing journeys.
