The Interior Health (IH) Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) alum gathered in Kelowna on March 6, 2026, to celebrate the first IH PQI Alum Summit. The event brought together physicians and operational alums from across the region to reconnect, share quality improvement expertise, and celebrate meaningful projects that have improved health system outcomes.
The summit also served as a collaborative think tank, where participants explored complex system challenges, including surgical never events, Indigenous-specific racism, and current barriers to embedding patient- and family-centred care across Interior Health.
As one participant shared, “This was an awesome place to reconnect, get energized, and focus on next steps for projects with a fresh perspective.” Another reflected on gaining “new perspectives on how I show up and influence change within challenging cultures.”
Delivered in collaboration with BC health authorities, PQI is a flagship initiative of the Specialist Services Committee. The program brings physicians and operational leaders together to build quality improvement capability, strengthen relationships, and foster a culture of continuous improvement through hands-on, real-world projects.
