Patient Stories

Hip Fracture Redesign Program

The Hip Fracture Redesign program is very much defined by a multidisciplinary approach that includes improving time to surgery, standardized and updated peri- and post-operative orders, defined care paths, education materials, and multidisciplinary teams. SSC provided the funding for the pilot and provincial expansion of this program.

SSC PQI

The Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program

A clinical, educational and research-based approach that supports patients and their families with the long-term implications of prostate cancer. SSC provided the initial funding to establish the program in Vancouver. With SSC's additional funding, the program is being expanded to other BC locations.

Inherited Heart Arrhythmia Program

About 7000 people in BC have an inherited heart arrhythmia that can cause a cardiac arrest and even death. SSC provided start-up funding to help establish the provincial Inherited Heart Arrhythmia Program.

Enhanced Recovery Video

From the perspective of an ERAS patient, this video addresses concrete ways that individual clinicians and clinical teams can contribute to a positive patient experience from pre-op to discharge.

Advanced Access/Office Efficiency

Advance Access offers a new way of scheduling patient appointments so that patients can more easily be seen at the time they prefer, including the same day. By helping to free up time on your schedule the program gives you more control over your practice and helps you to feel less hurried. It also helps eliminate backlogged appointments and enables more patient visits through the day.

The Specialist Services Committee acknowledges that we work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of many different Indigenous Nations throughout British Columbia.

Acknowledging that we are on the traditional territories of First Nations communities is an expression of cultural humility and involves recognizing our duty and desire to support the provision of culturally safe care to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people in BC.
