Quality and Innovation Projects

Purpose

To enable physicians to lead quality improvement in the system that enhances the quality of care provided to patients and their families.

Sizing it Up

Through a Quality and Innovation (Q&I) Projects fund, SSC has dedicated up to $23M ($8M in 2012 and $15M in 2015) to support time-limited, specialist-led quality improvement projects at the local, regional and provincial levels. Information on all Quality Improvement Projects supported by SSC can be found through our Project Directory – The Exchange

Things to Know

All of the SSC funded projects were guided by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Triple Aim objectives:

  • improve the health of a defined population;
  • enhance the patient (and/or provider) experience of care; and
  • reduce or at least control the per capita cost of care.

The SSC coordinated with health authorities, the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders as part of the design, application and implementation process to support physician-identified and health authority-endorsed projects.

Access Support

Although SSC funding for Q&I projects is no longer available, there may be is support available through your local Medical Staff Association through the Facility Engagement Initiative. The Physician QI Initiative provides training and support to physicians, through technical resources and expertise, to lead quality improvement (QI) projects.

Funding

SSC is now focusing on supporting these projects and there are no opportunities for new funding under the Q&I Projects.
