Over 100 participants came together in 17 multidisciplinary teams (sites) to the launch of the new Surgical Patient Optimization Collaborative (SPOC) on May 6, 2019. Click here to view the photo album.
In the day-long event, the participants shared their experiences, were inspired by the speakers, connected with their colleagues, and planned for starting the optimization work in their own sites. Representation from each site was diverse and ranged from patients, to surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, family physicians, directors of surgical care and other allied health providers. The participants were welcomed by Doctors of BC’s president-elect Dr Kathleen Ross, and inspired by the keynote speaker Dr Husein Moloo, a national leader in quality improvement and optimization work, in addition to other provincial leaders. See the full agenda here.
Overall, the event was deemed a great success, where 91 percent of the attendees said their understanding of surgical optimization increased as a result of their participation . Find the full evaluation outcomes here.
