The Specialist Services Committee has approved an additional $3M in one-time funding, bringing the total to $8M, to support 21 physician-led local projects over the next several years. A total of 166 project proposals were originally submitted by BC’s specialist physicians, the scopes of which ranged considerably from employing allied health care providers, equipment upgrades, developing IT/EMR, new health service delivery methods, and funding physician specific projects. Many worthy projects were submitted. The SSC evaluated each proposal in its project selection using certain criteria including the capacity of the available funding.
Each project will document its steps through a comprehensive evaluation and assessment process that will determine whether the projects have achieved their intended goals, objectives and outcomes. A key factor will be to learn from the results and experiences of these physician-led projects and establish best practices, approaches and strategies that can be applied more broadly to other communities across the province. More information and a summary of the projects.
